I met Cachao in the late 70's through a close friend Tany Gil who was at the time producing what is one of the greatest afro cuban, progressive jazz albums ever recorded. Walpataca which stands for Walfredo de los Reyes, Paquito Hechavarria, Tany Gil and Cachao. He was one of the most humble people you would ever meet. Later in the mid 80's I was lucky and blessed to work with him on a radio campaign for Molson beer "Solo con Molson" which featured him playing bass solos. He will be missed but the footprint he left in music in indelible as he is credited along with his brother for being the orginators of the Mambo.
