Buddy was and probably still holds the title for the most skillful jazz drummer and percussionist in the history of the instrument known as "Traps" His speed and dexterity are unmatched. Independence is one of the key still sets a modern jazz drummer can possess. The ability to mark time with the bass drum (kick) and the hi-hat while accenting with the snare and the other drums as well as the cymbals. He had incredible stamina because he knew how to play in a way that would not take a lot of energy, just a lot of practice. Buddy Rich lived 76 years from 1917 to 1987 in that time he played with everyone from the Andrew sisters band to Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra to Oscar Peterson. Visit the Buddy Rich site here.
